Patrick Head

Co-founder of Williams F1, Patrick has been responsible for designing several World Championship winning cars.

Head attended Royal Naval College at Dartmouth but decided a service career was not for him and moved on to study mechanical engineering at UCL.

He began his motorsport career with Lola Cars and he worked with a number of organisations before teaming up with Frank Williams in 1977.

Since Williams was formed, Patrick has overseen 113 Grand Prix wins and 16 world championships with Alan Jones, Keke Rosberg, Nelson Piquet, Nigel Mansell, Alain Prost, Damon Hill and Jacques Villeneuve while in the role of technical director or director of engineering.

He has also been credited with introducing a number of innovative engineering concepts to F1, including the Constant Variable Transmission (CVT) and the fly-by-wire active technologies including active suspension.
