Career Planning for today's F1 mechanics
A personal message from Sir Jackie
It is clear that the global economic downturn is continuing to impact on industries across the world and Formula 1 is no different. Along with the cost-cutting measures introduced by the FIA, this is likely to have an impact on the number of mechanics jobs in the industry.
If you are affected through redundancy or the lack of job opportunities, it’s important to remember that you are still a skilled individual who any employer would be fortunate to have as a part of their team. You have the drive and determination to work hard, even at the cost of personal sacrifice in terms of constant travel and family life.
At a time like this, it's important to make sure you are equipped to find a role which suits your skills and values, allows you to make a valid contribution, and feel happy and satisfied.
With this in mind, the Trust commissioned a team of specialists to create a series of booklets designed to help you take the next steps to finding a new career.
Entitled Career Planning: A Next Step Guide, they are a practical contribution that we offer at no cost to you. The booklet guides you through a personal analysis of your skills to highlight your strengths and weaknesses which will, in turn, help you identify features you should be looking for in your new job and those features you should avoid.
Other features include
- Helpful tips on researching the job market and specific injuries
- Guidance on networking and where to find further help and advice to take the next steps
- Tips on how to organise your job search, write your CV, and perform well in an interview
- An overview of alternatives to full-time employment such as running your own business
Remember, the Trust is here to help.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact our Professional Needs Assessor, Ruth Ritchie at ruth@gpmechanicstrust.com.
If you are faced with having to change career, remember how much you have to offer to other opportunities. I would like to wish you the very best of luck in your future career and reiterate just how important you have been to the success of your team and the public’s enjoyment of Formula One.
