Senna screening - what a night!
Thursday 4 May, 2011
I was one of many people who would have loved to have been at the first UK screening of the Senna movie last night, but couldn't make it. I hear it was a brilliant night, there was great buzz around the auditorium and the film itself was a real tear jerker.
A huge thank you must go to to everyone who bought tickets, to Tag Heuer for their support and last but not least, to our trustee James Allen, for making this all happen.
For the result is that the Grand Prix Mechanics Charitable Trust has received a very welcome boost to its fund - the total amount raised is being verified, but for sure, it is well into four figures. The money raised goes to help GP mechanics and their families when trouble strikes.
Quite a few of Senna's mechanics were there - the same guys whom our chairman, Sir Jackie Stewart, regularly describes as the "real professionals" in Grand Prix Racing. And it was great to see that so many of Senna's mechanics are already on our register of Grand Prix Mechanics.
We keep the register so we can stay in touch with F1 mechanics - past and present - and so we can help them should the need arise, often long after they have left the security of their teams.
This website aims to tell you all about them and all about us - the Grand Prix Mechanics Charitable Trust. The website is new, it's still developing and we'd love to hear your views on it.
Any while you're here, if I might be so bold, please consider making a small donation - just click on the Donate tab to donate online or off - your support is very much appreciated.
