Red Bull Team Manager on the value of the Trust – see video here
Interview: Jonathan Wheatley, Red Bull Team Manager, on the importance of the GPMCT
Jonathan Wheatley, who is the man charged with making sure the Red Bull pit crew runs like a well-oiled machine during races, attended his first GPMCT reunion in Autumn 2010 after himself registering as a member.
“It’s my first time here and it certainly won’t be my last,” said Wheatley. “I was introduced to the Trust through Sir Jackie and he spent quite a bit of time trying to get the team more interested.
“We have regular team meetings and when Sir Jackie spoke to the team managers, I fed it back to the guys and I asked them to register because while I understand there are around 220 mechanics registered with the Trust, there must be thousands who haven’t signed up and I hope that they will do.
“I’ve been employed by a Formula 1 team for over 20 years now and I know that if something happened to me while I’m working with the team, I’d be looked after.
“But talking to some retired mechanics who have been out of the business longer than I’ve been in it, they’re in a completely different situation and I think that’s why the Trust is doing such great work.”
